Retort Pouch
Retort pouches are a semi-rigid, flexible, leak-proof packaging solution made from heat-resistant laminated plastic capable of withstanding a high temperature of up to 250 degrees.
Versatile and Heat-Resistant
The heat-resistant characteristics of the pouch allow the sterile packaging of a wide variety of food products, making it the ideal packaging solution for convenient, processed and pre-packaged food. A standard retort packaging is made of 4 layers, is FDA-approved and has undergone sterilisation to increase the durability of the packaging.
- Propylene: This layer provides strength and flexibility and is a heat seal surface.
- Nylon: Including a nylon layer adds abrasion resistance, ensuring the pouch can withstand wear and tear.
- Aluminium Foil: By incorporating an aluminium foil layer, the pouch extends the shelf life of products. This layer acts as a protective barrier, shielding the contents from light, gases, microorganisms, and unwanted odours. The stiffness of the foil also allows for the inclusion of a tear notch, making it easier to open the package.
- Polyester: The polyester layer offers high-temperature resistance, additional strength, and the ability to display printed graphics on the pouch.
Flexible and Upright Packaging
The retort pouch minimises heat exposure, effectively preserving and enhancing the enclosed food products’ colour, aroma, taste, and shape. Furthermore, this packaging solution helps to retain valuable nutrients, reducing nutrient loss.
The flexible nature of the pouch, coupled with its ability to stand upright, ensures the integrity of the contents. It also occupies minimal space on store shelves, maximizing efficiency. This enables easy distribution and cost savings, as more products can be transported simultaneously.
