Silica Gel

Silica Gel is effective in adsorbing moisture and water vapour due to its non-reactive and odourless features. It allows control of the relative humidity in a packed environment. The desiccants can adsorb up to 40% of their weight and bring the humidity in the packaging down to 40%.

Types of Silica Gels

Non-indicating, Orange-indicating, and Blue-indicating Silica Gels are the standard moisture absorbers available. Indicating Silica Gel Desiccant acts as a moisture indicator showing a colour change when it reaches its total adsorption capacity, alerting users to replace it. The blue Cobalt Chloride desiccants will turn pink when saturated, while the orange methyl violet desiccants will turn from orange to green. Another alternative for an indication for a replacement would be the weight of the desiccants or a Humidity Indicator Card.

Benefits

Silica Gel Desiccants absorb moisture faster than desiccant clay at higher humidity levels. Made of highly porous silicon dioxide, it binds water molecules onto its interior surfaces and keeps it dry even after it is saturated. The silica gel desiccant is a mineral processed and purified into a granular or beaded form. The moisture absorbers are often packed into desiccant bags to help eliminate both humidity and moisture from the air creating a dry and moisture-free environment for product packaging in industries such as electronics, food, automotive and healthcare.

Humi Pak Desiccants are controlled and closely monitored by our in-house laboratory daily to ensure high-quality grade desiccants supply with high dust attrition resistance.
