Gusset Pouch is a flexible pouch incorporated with a special material known as “gusset”, providing the pouch with an increased volume and strengthened structure. The pouch is available in two different forms; Side Gusset Pouch – when the gusset is added to the side of a pouch or, Bottom Gusset Pouch – when the gusset is added to the bottom of a pouch.
Difference between Side & Bottom Gusset Pouch
Side Gusset is commonly used for products such as coffee, tea and snacks as the added gusset to the side provides the pouch with more volume, maximising storage capacity for the pouch. This also allows the pouch and product to be displayed on the shelf both vertically or horizontally, providing flexible aesthetical appeals to consumers.
Bottom Gusset, on the other hand, is seen as the most common pouch in the industry. It can be classified further into three different types, the Round Bottom, K-seal Bottom and Plow Bottom Gusset to suit various needs of customers. The Round Bottom Gusset is used for the packing of products that weigh less than 500 grams while the K-seal and Plow Bottom is used to pack products weighing more than 500 grams. The difference between the K-seal and Plow Bottom is that the Plow Bottom is typically used for flour and sugars.
Although both Side and Bottom Gusset Pouch serve different needs and applications, they are both capable of providing customers with an ideal packaging solution for brands that need an attractive packaging format to suit their products.
